A rare and rather unique distinction. He made his professional stage debut aged only 18 when he played the role of Othello. In 1973, he was the first black Bond villain, starring as Dr. Kanaga in “Live and Let Die”.
There are a lot of dark-skinned Hollywood actors, but as the majority of African Americans have at least some degree of Caucasian admixture, few are as dark as Yaphet Kotto. He died in 2021 in the Philippines, where he spent his final years retired in tropical paradise.
Probably the darkest I can think of on the spot was the actor Yaphet Kotto. Born to a West-Indian mother and a father from Cameroon, Kotto was one of the darkest-skinned gentlemen ever to act in Hollywood.
